In the past, there have been local internship opportunities at the Westwego terminal, and/or at Reserve. These are parts of Cargill's "Grain and Oilseed Supply Chain". The two terminals are located on the lower Mississippi as transshipment points. The two plants export about 18 million tonnes of grains, oilseeds, and grain by-products and derivatives annually. This work is accomplished through year-round 24/7 operations. Commodities arrive 90% by barge and10% by rail, and are loaded onto vessels for shipment around the world. The two facilities employ forty professional staff, and usually have a limited number of entry-level openings annually to replace people who promote "up" in the Cargill system. Recruiting and hiring for interns and full time employment for these facilities is done at the facility. Contact Dr. Hinson for information. Hires include

  1. production supervisors at Reserve and Westwego, typically from major including agricultural business, agricultural economics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial technology or agricultural
  2. mechanization internships to high-performing undergraduate students interested in careers as supervisor, production manager, and maintenance manager.

Cargill retains a profile of hiring mainly at entry level, and promoting from within. The career track suggested above leads to expertise in large plant management, multiple facilities management, mechanical & electrical maintenance oversight, construction projects manager, or specialist in marine operations or grain handling. This is true for agri-related positions in North America and abroad.
