Welcome to the Department!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at Louisiana State University. The Departmental mission is to enhance the "quality of life" and "economic well being" of the people of Louisiana and around the world by providing outstanding research and extension programs through the LSU Agricultural Center and quality educational programs through the LSU College of Agriculture. In order to enhance the extension, teaching, and research programs, the LSU Agricultural Center has merged the extension agricultural economics program with the agricultural economics research and teaching program. This organizational change will foster constructive dialogue, joint projects, and innovative teaching, research, and extension programs.

The Department offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business. This program prepares students for exciting and challenging careers in the food and fiber agribusiness industry. The program emphasizes management, marketing, finance, and economic principles. Also an agribusiness minor is offered to complement other degree programs.

The Department maintains a full range of Masters and Ph.D. programs in Agricultural Economics. Masters students may concentrate in Agribusiness, Natural Resource and Environmental Policy, or Agricultural Economics. The research mission is accomplished through the graduate program and by the talented faculty of the department. The funding for research is supported by the LSU Agricultural Center and extramural grants from private and public sectors.

The Extension mission provides the educational and public service programs that enhances the welfare of all Louisiana citizens. Extension faculty "extend" economic and social information through all parish extension offices for farmers, agribusiness, agricultural lenders, trade associations and policymakers.

In Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness there are 24 faculty and 10 support staff located in the Agricultural Administration Building on the LSU campus. We are committed to developing and extending quality teaching, research, and extension programs. We hope you will take advantage of our programs.
